Palais des Ducs - Dijon

The VLMC days will take place on the 5th and 6th of March, 2013, at the Institut de Mathématiques de Bourgogne (IMB), in the René Baire room.

This workshop will focus on recent breakthroughs in understanding and applications of Variable Length Markov Chains also called Variable Order Markov Chains. These stochastic processes make up an important class of models and generalize the standard Markov chain of finite order. The order in a VLMC depends on the specific observed realization.

These models are particularly useful for many applications in statistical analysis, machine learning, classification and identification of DNA sequences, neuroscience,...

The program concerns recent developments in the description and applications of the VLMC and shall also permit to present works in related theories (Dirichlet series, random walks with VLMC noise, semi-Markov processes, dynamical systems,...).
